Real Madrid losses -20.8 million in basketball in 2023/24, but revenues increased
Florentino Perez announced a few days ago structural changes coming to Real Madrid, which from being a “non-profit” company as it is now may soon become a normal private company with club members receiving shares. Essential changes to regain economic stability that does not depend on third-party factors - several times, it is no secret, banks have intervened. All considerations that also affect basketball, which continues to lose several million euros a year. According to Spanish journalist Marc Mundet, the Blancos' balance sheet in basketball shows revenues for 25.1 million euros, while expenses were 46.3 million. The operating result says liabilities of -20.8 million euros for 2023/24 season.
The good news, Mundet points out, are definitely the revenue numbers, but the total is still red. Last year's announced losses were 27.8 million euros in 2022/23, bringing the total deficit over the past five years to 130.64 million. A sign, however, that the damage has been limited, and will be even more limited in 2024/25. In the summer, Real Madrid confirmed Walter Tavares, but effectively gave up Vincent Poirier and especially Guerschon Yabusele. And the players who arrived are traveling at far-flung figures: from Ibaka to Feliz, Rathan-Mayes, Garuba.
