Official: Warriors to Retire Andre Iguodala's #9 Jersey
Andre Iguodala is ready to make history with the Golden State Warriors, as the franchise has announced it will retire his #9 jersey. The ceremony will take place on February 23. The Springfield, Illinois native decided to join the Warriors in 2013 after completing a stint with the Denver Nuggets. He stayed in the Bay Area until 2019, returning in 2021 until 2023, when he retired. During his time with Golden State, Iguodala helped the team win four NBA championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. In 2015, he was also named Finals MVP, averaging 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in the six-game series. As early as 2019, team owner Joe Lacob said that Iguodala's jersey would eventually be retired. It is the first of several expected retirements to honor what has been a golden era in Warriors history.
Iguodala played 452 regular season games (84 as a starter) with the Warriors, averaging 6.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 26.0 minutes per game over eight seasons (2013-19, 2021-23). He also played 111 playoff games (40 as a starter) with Golden State, averaging 8.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.1 steals, and 28.5 minutes per game. Iguodala’s #9 jersey will be the seventh retired by the Warriors and will join the jerseys of legends like Alvin Attles (#16), Rick Barry (#24), Wilt Chamberlain (#13), Tom Meschery (#14), Chris Mullin (#17), and Nate Thurmond (#42) in the rafters of the Chase Center.
Iguodala reached the NBA Finals in six of his eight seasons with the Warriors.
Iguodala is one of only 11 players to have won four NBA championships and earned an NBA Finals MVP, alongside teammate Stephen Curry and NBA legends Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, John Havlicek, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, and Tony Parker. He ranks among the top 10 all-time playoff leaders for the Warriors in several categories, including: 4th in steals (122), 5th in three-pointers made (113), 3rd in assists (383), 4th in games played (111), and 4th in minutes played (3,160).
