The NBA is coming to Amazon Prime Video in Italy: 87 regular season games per year

The NBA lands in Italy on Amazon Prime Video. Milana Glisic, Director of Advertising Sales for Amazon Ads Italy and Spain, announced it to ItaliaOggi:
"The introduction of advertising allows us to continue investing in quality content for Prime members, such as Fallout, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, Costiera, LOL, The Traitors, Gigolò per caso, and Non è un paese per single, and to increase this investment in the long term. We know that producing high-quality global and local content will help us retain our audience and attract new viewers. Prime Video's approach is centered on creating a wide range of premium TV series and movies, and, in some countries, live sports events that can engage a large audience. We also know that live sports attract both passionate fans and casual viewers, which is why we continue to invest in our sports offering. For example, by the end of this year, we are excited to bring the NBA to Prime members in Italy, offering access to 87 regular season games per year starting in October 2025. This will complement our broadcast of the best UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday nights."
Therefore, the NBA will have an alternative platform to Sky Sport, which in 2023 renewed its contract for broadcasting rights with a multi-year deal, reportedly until the 2025/26 season. It’s worth noting that this past summer, the NBA reached agreements with several broadcasters for TV rights. Among them, in addition to ESPN/ABC and NBC, is Amazon Prime. A deal worth $76 billion over 11 years that will lead the NBA to an increase in the salary cap and potentially the development of new projects, such as expanding in the USA or establishing a new private league in Europe.
