Kevin Braswell passed away at 46 in Japan

Kevin Braswell has passed away at the age of 46. A native of Baltimore, he spent four years at Georgetown University before turning professional in 2002. In the 2002/03 season, he came to Italy to play for Aironi Novara in Serie A2, finishing the season with an average of 17.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. That was his only experience in Italy; during his career, he played in Israel, Belgium, Poland, Russia, and Turkey before joining the New Zealand Breakers in the Australian NBL, where he won the championship in 2011. The Utsunomiya Brex confirmed the news of his passing, the Japanese team he was coaching. The cause of death was not specified, but Braswell had been hospitalized after undergoing heart surgery earlier this year.
Braswell never played in the NBA, but he participated in preseason games with the Raptors and Heat and had experience in the G-League (formerly D-League). He was head coach of the Breakers in 2018. "Today we mourn the passing of Breakers legend Kevin Braswell," the team wrote on social media. "KB, a former player, championship winner, Sixth Man of the Year, and head coach, passed away during the night. Our thoughts and aroha [love] go out to his family during this time."
