Jusuf Nurkic leaves Phoenix, traded to Charlotte for Cody Martin, Vasilije Micic

Jusuf Nurkic’s time with the Phoenix Suns comes to an end. The Bosnian center leaves the franchise as part of a trade with the Charlotte Hornets. Serbian Vasilije Micic is also involved in the trade, and he will head to Arizona along with Cody Martin. All three players had been the subject of trade rumors in recent days. Below are the details of the trade:
• The Suns receive: Cody Martin, Vasilije Micic, a second-round draft pick in 2026
• The Hornets receive: Jusuf Nurkic and a first-round draft pick in 2026
Nurkic had been out of the Suns' rotation for some time and at the end of January, he revealed that he had not spoken to head coach Mike Budenholzer for over two months. The Bosnian had barely played since being removed from the starting lineup at the beginning of January. He played 14 minutes off the bench on January 6 against Philadelphia and 19 the following night in Charlotte, but since then, he has been out. In 25 games this season, he averaged 8.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. This was his second season in Phoenix. His past includes Portland and Denver.
Micic has a contract expiring with a value of $7.7 million. He is averaging 7.5 points and 3.5 assists in his second NBA season with 21.2 minutes per game. Meanwhile, Martin has a contract worth $8,680,000 for the 2025/26 season and is averaging 7.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game in 39 games this season.
