Ofer Yannay (Hapoel) reveals, “EuroLeague? There may be other options soon.”
Ofer Yannay, owner of Hapoel Tel Aviv, has built a team with the clear goal of winning the EuroCup in the summer, and the club after eight games has recorded five wins and three losses, with much news coming in the past few weeks. From the Johnathan Motley case, which Yannay believes is close to returning, to the choice of Dimitris Itoudis as the new head coach. "We will try to win the EuroCup, but you know that it's one of the hardest competitions to win. Last year we were up by 23 in quarter-finals and we lost, it felt like we are watching a car crash in slow motion and we can't do anything about it," Yannay said. He then reveals how EuroLeague could face new competitors in the summer:
"I think there is a good chance that next summer European basketball is going to have more options than the EuroLeague for teams that want to compete and teams that want to invest a lot of money. I'm not sure the EuroLeague is going to be the only option for us. I want us to be ready for all the options we will have in the summer, ready in terms of having a great team, great coach and a great fanbase, all of this together will make us an attractive team for a league if there is a competition between leagues, and I think that the competition between leagues is coming," he concluded.
